# 13224: Dial: Twilio does not support calling this number or the number is invalid

Log Type: APPLICATION

Log Level: ERROR

## Description

This error occurs when a `<Dial>` request targets a destination that Twilio cannot route or that is not a valid callable phone number. Format destination numbers in `E.164` and verify that the destination is valid and in service before you place the call.

### Possible causes

* The destination number is not formatted in `E.164`, such as a missing `+` or country code.
* The destination uses a country code, area code, or exchange that does not exist or is not assigned.
* The destination is a premium rate or shared-cost number that Twilio does not support for outbound calling.
* The destination is formatted correctly, but no carrier partner can complete the call because of a local telecom network outage.

### Possible solutions

* Send the destination number in `E.164` format, for example `+14155552671`.
* Check that the country code, area code, and subscriber number are valid for the destination you want to call.
* Validate the number before you place the call. Use Twilio Lookup to confirm formatting and basic number validity.
* Do not dial premium rate or shared-cost destinations.
* If the number is valid and correctly formatted, try the call again later to rule out a temporary carrier outage.
