# 20005: Account not active

Log Type: APPLICATION

Log Level: ERROR

## Description

You encounter this error when you send a request from an account that isn't active. This situation can occur if your project was suspended after its balance fell to $0 or below, or if you haven't yet activated your free trial for the usage you're attempting. An inactive account can't place calls, send messages, purchase or provision phone numbers, or perform other API operations until you reactivate it.

### Possible causes

* Your account balance reached $0 or below, which suspended the project.
* You haven't yet upgraded or activated your free trial account for the workflow you're trying to use.
* A parent account was suspended, which also suspended the subaccount making the request.
* The account or subaccount `Status` is `suspended` instead of `active`. Twilio account resources can also be `closed`, which prevents API use.
* The account was disabled during a Terms of Service or Acceptable Use Policy review.

### Possible solutions

* Check your project balance in Console or by using the Balance resource. If the balance is below $0, add funds to bring the project back above $0.
* If you recently paid an overdue balance or added funds, allow 5–10 minutes for reactivation. If the project still appears suspended in Console, sign out and sign back in before retrying the request.
* If you're still using a trial project and require paid usage, upgrade the project in Console. Upgrading removes trial restrictions and adds a starting balance or any applicable promotional credit.
* If you suspended a subaccount, update the subaccount `Status` to `active` before sending new requests.
* Review the account status before retrying. If the account is `closed`, use another active account because closed, upgraded accounts cannot be reopened. If the account was disabled for review or doesn't reactivate after payment, contact Twilio Support through the Help Center.
