# 21628: Address Validation Error

Log Type: APPLICATION

Log Level: ERROR

## Description

Twilio returns this error when the address you submit to the Address resource does not pass validation in a country where address validation is required for phone number regulatory compliance. Twilio does not create the address when validation fails.

### Possible causes

* The submitted street, city, region, postal code, or country does not match a valid address in the validation provider's data.
* The address contains misspellings, extra spaces, punctuation, or special characters that prevent validation.
* The address format does not follow country-specific expectations. For example, US addresses require a two-letter state abbreviation in `Region` and a standard 5-digit ZIP code in `PostalCode`.
* The address is valid in the real world, but the external validation service cannot find it in the expected format.

### Possible solutions

* Confirm that the address is the end user's physical business or residential address and that all required fields are complete, including `Street`, `City`, `Region`, `PostalCode`, and `IsoCountry`.
* Remove leading and trailing spaces. Remove unnecessary punctuation and special characters from the address and name fields.
* Try a standardized street format, such as common abbreviations like `St` or `Ave` without punctuation.
* For US addresses, send the state as a two-letter abbreviation in `Region` and use a 5-digit ZIP code in `PostalCode`.
* If you are updating an existing unvalidated address, submit a `POST` request to the Address instance with all address fields to trigger validation again.
* If the address is already linked to phone numbers and cannot be modified or revalidated, create a new address and use that address for regulatory compliance or emergency address registration.
* If validation continues to fail, contact Support.
