# 80504: An internal server error has occurred.

Log Type: TWILIO

Log Level: ERROR

## Description

This error means Proxy could not complete the request because it encountered an internal server error while processing it. In Twilio API responses, a `500` status indicates an internal Twilio error.

### Possible causes

* Proxy encountered an unexpected internal failure while handling a Proxy REST API request.
* A storage or downstream Twilio component used by Proxy failed during request processing.
* A current Twilio incident or degraded service is affecting Proxy or the wider Twilio platform. ([help.twilio.com](https://help.twilio.com/articles/360013353193-Checking-Twilio-Service-and-API-Status-with-the-Status-Page))

### Possible solutions

* Retry the request after a short delay. If you retry automatically, use exponential backoff.
* Review the Twilio Debugger to inspect the error event and confirm which request failed.
* Capture the `Twilio-Request-Id` response header from the failed request. Include it in your investigation or support case.
* Review the Twilio status page to see whether an active incident is affecting Proxy or related platform services. ([help.twilio.com](https://help.twilio.com/articles/360013353193-Checking-Twilio-Service-and-API-Status-with-the-Status-Page))
* If the error continues, test the same request with `curl` and contact support with the request details and request ID.
