# Click Tracking Best Practices

## Format links correctly

If click tracking doesn't replace your original links, review your link formatting. For Twilio click tracking, format your links as follows:

* Write links in the `href` attribute of an HTML `<a>` tag.
* Don't add spaces on either side of the `=` after the `href` attribute.
* Put the URI in double quotes.
* Start the link with `https://`.
* Don't encode your links with Base64.

> A link can't use a custom field or be part of a custom field.

> * **Use**: `<a href="http://example.com/{{ birthday_url }}"></a>`

## Turn off tracking on an individual link

To turn off click tracking for individual links, add the `clicktracking=off` attribute to the anchor tag *before* the `href`.

## Replace Twilio SendGrid domains in tracking links

After you configure your authenticated domain, custom tracking links can use your subdomain with certain Twilio SendGrid plans.
